Like Pulp Fiction, but in 2016

No, not really; but you get the drift. You know, Jack Rabbit Slim’s with all the the car tables and diner vibes, sans the dance floor, the stage, and the dressed up wait staff. STILL MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE MOVIE.

I stayed at Bukit Bintang in my most recent visit in Kuala Lumpur and one of the restaurants that will most probably catch your eye in the area is Blues & Bees — a car-/racing-themed American diner serving all sorts of food from salads, to pastas, burgers, and steaks.

The first time I walked past it, I felt the urge to dine (cos .. Pulp Fiction) and have some pasta and maybe a burger, but my conscience told me I’m in Malaysia and that it’s probably best to have local food. However, soon as I stepped out of my hotel the next morning, it started raining heavily – an intense downpour – and the closest establishment to seek refuge at was Blues & Bees. So I thought why not. It’s also a nice chance to take some photos without feeling conscious cos I’m dining anyway.

Here’s how the place looks like:

There’s also a red “car table,” but it was a bit drenched in the rain so I didn’t bother. Pretty cool, right? Sadly, food wasn’t as “cool” as the place looks (and feels).

I ordered a cheeseburger (or was it a blue cheese burger?) and a steak. Were they good? The burger was dry, although tasty. Pretty basic, honestly; nothing fancy. The steak looks good! But it was a downer – too gummy, to think I had it at medium doneness. It was quite bland, too. The rice that came with it was quite good, though; too bad I had gummy steak to enjoy with it. Lol

TL;DR, I say save yourselves a few $$$ and skip this place. Go and pass by it, take a photo or two, but don’t dine there. It’s not worth it, especially at its price range.

Anyway, it’s the closest I can get to a Jack Rabbit Slim’s and I’ve ALWAYS wanted to dine at the fictional restaurant, so there’s that. But don’t make the same mistake lol.

Find the good in getting lost,

P.S. If there is already an actual and straight-out-of-the-movie Jack Rabbit Slim’s, please let me know in the comments! Would love to visit. But no, don’t tell me there’s a Jack Rabbit Slim’s in Perth, AUS – think it’s just of the same name (sadly). It’s a nice night club though, I heard. 😉

P.P.S. Anybody wanna do the twist? Hahaha!
